UN calls for ceasefire before Ramadan in Yemen

GENEVA: United Nations General Secretary Ban Ki-moon has called for immediate ceasefire in war-torn Yemen, in connection with the holy month of Ramadan.

He emphasized all the stake holders in the opening session of Yemen peace talks that they should have stopped fighting immediately.

He said in Geneva that he hoped this week started with the end of the fighting.’I have emphasized the importance of another humanitarian pause for two weeks,’ Ban said. The secretary general called on all parties to reach an agreement on a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire.
