Tokyo stocks edge down ahead of BoJ policy decision

TOKYO: Tokyo stocks lost early gains Friday morning, despite an oil-driven rally on Wall Street, as investors focused on the outcome of a Bank of Japan policy meeting.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange, which rose at the open, fell 0.52 percent, or 88.36 points, to 16,953.09 by the break.

The broader Topix index of all first-section shares was down 0.18 percent, or 2.50 points, to 1,389.60.
