KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) Friday directed the advocate general of Sindh to inform the court regarding details of laws pertaining to renewed issuance of liquor licenses in the province.

A two-judge bench headed by the Chief Justice of Sindh High Court Justice Sajjad Ali Shah heard a petition relating to liquor shops in the province.

The advocate general informed the court that in the light of Supreme Court’s order, shops of liquor have been allowed to reopen.

The bench in its comments said that law does not allow to sell liquor openly and government should not try to take shelter under the decision of the apex court.

The petitioner in the case informed the court that liquor is being sold in the name of minorities in the country, whereas, their religion also does allow to drink liquor.

The court, upon that, directed the advocate general of the province to inform the court about the details of laws pertaining to renewed issuance of liquor licenses in the province and adjourned the hearing by December 9.
