Senate approves Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Bill

ISLAMABAD: The Senate passed the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Bill here on Thursday.

During a Senate session presided over by Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, Federal Law Minister Nazir Tarar submitted a motion to present the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Bill in the House.

The motion of the opposition to refer the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Bill to the Standing Committee was rejected and the motion to pass the bill immediately was approved.

Meanwhile, the Senate security cordoned off the government and opposition benches after which the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure was presented for approval.

The bill was passed by a majority, with 60 votes in favor and 19 against.
Senators belonging to FATA and Balochistan Awami Party on opposition seats also voted in support of the bill.

Speaking in the Senate before the voting, Federal Law Minister Nazir Tarar said that all judges of the Supreme Court are equal, to strengthen the institution, instead of strengthening the personality, the system should be strengthened. The National Assembly passed the Supreme Court Bill yesterday. 2023 passed, Parliament has power to legislate, new trend seen in Supreme Court for two decades, Constitution says not to interfere unnecessarily in boundaries.

Azam Nazir Tarar said that here the executive has been put in the dock again and again, such spontaneous notices have been taken in which the issues up to cleanliness in the streets have been raised, Liver Hospital has also exposed the personal ego of the Chief Justice. Anti-spontaneous notice legislation was called for, the state suffered billions of dollars in losses due to spontaneous notices.
