Schools reopen after summer vacation

The public and private schools in Karachi and across the Sindh province reopened after summer vacation today (Monday).

The Sindh education department had rebuffed all rumours of extension of vacations and had ordered the heads of all schools to open the institutions from coming Monday.

The directives to close the schools early from May 19, which were violated, had been issued by Pechuho but the private schools had claimed that the annual examinations were underway along with summer vacation homework due to which they couldn’t comply with the orders.

Following the violation, 46 private schools were given a letter of suspension of registration by the Directorate of Private Institutions, Sindh (DPIS), yet no serious action was taking against them. Rather many schools did not receive any notices because DPIS doesn’t have enough employees to cater to private schools in the city, and those who did were let off easily without any fine after the body accepted their excuses.

According to the notification issued on May 19, Secretary had said: “With the approval of competent authority, summer vacations for all public and private educational institutions of Sindh are hereby rescheduled with immediate effect from May 19 to July 24, 2016 instead of June 01 to July 31, 2016 due to prevailing current heat-wave. All the educational institutions would open on July 25, 2016.”

However, the private schools reopen on July 25 today.
