Karachi: Suleman Chawla, President SITE Association of Industry, has rejected the permission granted by NEPRA to K-Electric to collect fuel charges adjustment (FCA) of 3 years (from July 2016 to June 2019) from consumers in next 9 months and has appealed the Prime Minister Imran Khan to cancel the NEPRA permission to give relief to consumers of K-Electric.

Mr.Chawla said that allowing K-Electric to collect 3 years fuel charges adjustments from consumers is beyond comprehension who are already burdened with higher tariff. It will have direct impact on industries which are bulk consumers of power.

“It is quite contrary to the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan who has repeatedly stated that the government wants ease of doing business, industrial development and export promotion in the country and will provide conducive environment for the purpose”, added Mr.Chawla.

He further said that such steps of government-owned entities like NEPRA are against the vision of Prime Minister, to which, the business community of Karachi has shown concerns and want the government to remove such hurdles in the way of doing business.

Mr.Suleman Chawla said that it is injustice to pass on the burden of defaulter to those who pay bills regularly.

In fact, the government should issue orders to clear the dues government departments owe to K-Electric to improve its financial position. Against this, NEPRA has allowed K-Electric to recover huge amount of 18 billion rupees from its consumers which is not at all acceptable to the business community and voice shall be raised against this injustice at all forums in the federal and provincial capitals.
