Naqvi suspends Lahore passport officials for taking bribe

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited the Passport Office in Lahore’s Garden Town, where he suspended two officials, including deputy director, on public complaints of corruption.

On the occasion, the citizens complained about bribe being demanded for obtaining passports.

The citizens showed evidence of giving money to the mafia agent to Mohsin Naqvi for getting passports. They told the interior minister that everyone from guard to top official demand money for getting passport. After giving bribe, the process of issuing passport gets fast. On this, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi asked the Director of Passport Office that what is happening? The minister said that everyone is complaining about taking money from agents and staff.

He asked questions to the director and assistant director to which both officers could not answer. The minister transferred the directors.

The minister said that here everything is going on openly and there is no question of taking money without the connivance of the staff. It is our responsibility to facilitate the citizens, he added.
