Three injured in Mehmoodabad gas explosion

QUETTA: At least five people were injured in an explosion near the Quetta Police Lines area on Sunday, rescue officials said.

Edhi worker Zeeshan Ahmed, who is leading the rescue operation on the site, told media that the injured persons have been shifded to the Civil Hospital, Quetta.

He said police and emergency teams have arrived at the site and the area has been cordoned off.

Police haven’t issued any statement and the nature of the blast is not clear at the moment.

Last week, a suicide explosion occurred inside a mosque located in Police Lines in Peshawar’s Saddar area. As a result, over 100 worshippers martyred and over 221 injured.

The injured were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital, where condition of several injured is critical. Sources said that 25 to 30 cops were injured the blast.

According to the rescue sources, the sound of the explosion was so intense that it was heard far away.

Police said that the blast was suicidal.

Sources said that the suicide bomber standing in first row blew himself as the congregational prayers started.

Prayer leader of the mosque was also martyred in the blast.

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah speaking to media said that police were fighting with terrorists.
