PM’s convoy not attacked: Interior Ministry

ISLAMABAD: Ministry of Interior on Sunday said that a person mistakenly came into the route of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif convoy moving en route Murree to Islamabad.

Interior Ministry spokesperson in its recent statement refuted reports of attack on PM’s convoy.

Initial investigation report indicated that  the arrested person was ex-officer of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) who had ‘mistakenly’ entered in the security circle and tried to overtake the convoy, spokesperson detailed the incident during a press conference in Islamabad.

The spokesperson also clarified that number plate of the vehicle was not fake.

Earlier, state television reported that Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family members escaped safe from a ‘life attack’ en route Murree to Islamabad here on Sunday evening.

Convoy of PM Nawaz Sharif and his family members faced life attack while moving from Murree to the federal capital Islamabad today, reports said.

According to report, a suspicious 4WD vehicle, Prado, suddenly ploughed into the convoy near Malpur village and attempted to hit PM’s vehicle. However, it was immediately stopped by the security officials on the spot.

PM and all family members were escaped the attack and safely arrived in Islamabad. Sources said that First Lady Begum Kulsoom Nawaz and PM’s daughter were also present in the convoy.

Security sources said that the suspicious vehicle and its driver were seized by the security forces. Sources added that number plate of the ‘Prado’ was ‘fake’.

A thorough investigation has been started into the incident regarding failure of strict security arrangements for the premier’s convoy.
