Revenue officers of Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) have been barred from appearing before the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) team probing into overbilling.

Sources said that the LESCO management has barred its revenue officers from appearing before the investigation agency tasked with probe into overbilling. The revenue officers of the LESCO did not appear before the FIA for investigations on April 9 as both the departments are remained at odds.

The agency had summoned revenue officers along with the two-year record including deduction units and units charged for meter change, the source said. LESCO has urged the FIA officials to improve their behavior towards its officials as they are also associated with a reputable institution.

Earlier, the FIA had launched an inquiry last month into overbilling by the Lahore Electric Supply Company in Kasur, Okara, Sheikhupura and Nankana Sahib areas on the overbilling complaints. The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) launched an action against overbilling in the Lahore Electric Supply Company region in February.

The power regulatory body vowed to take stern action against XENs in light of the report. It said the field officers found involved in overbilling will be terminated.
