Overall telecom tele-density reaches 66.4 per cent

ISLAMABAD: Overall telecom tele-density in the country has reached 66.4 percent by December last year, showing a gradual increase as it was 66.1 per cent three months back.

Mobile phone subscription has mainly contributed in overall tele-density which was 65.3 per cent while fixedline tele-density was mere 1.7 per cent till the period mentioned. The number of fixedline subscribers in the country is 3.14 million.

As per stats made available by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the number of mobile subscribers in Pakistan reached 125.899 million at the end of December 2015, after five mobile phone companies added a combined user base of 1.65 million customers during the reported month.

The data said Mobilink leads the charts with 36.21 million customers while Telenor is closing in the gap with 34.93 million subscribers. However, after planned merger of Mobilink and Warid, Mobilink will be able to widen the lead with more than 46 million post-merger customers.

Zong had 24.13 million customers at the end of December 2015 while Ufone stood with 19.93 million customers till the time. Warid had a total of 10.69 million customers.
