Nursing home fire kills 16 old citizens in Mexico

TIJUANA: Nursing home fire engulfed the lives of 16 aged people in Mexico. The nursing home was established to provide care to old people.

Officials said that the fire erupted in the pre-dawn. They said that 44 people were present there when fire broke out. They affirmed that 16 people had been died and five other were burnt partially.

The reason of the incident could not be detected yet but police is probing into this matter. Another five seniors had burns and smoke inhalation injuries while one person was listed as missing after the blaze at the “Beautiful Dusk” facility, which cared for former homeless people in a rural area of the border city of Mexicali.

The nursing home, which had 44 elderly residents and capacity for 60, was administered by the Cultural Society Promoting Social Welfare. After the fire, 23 elderly residents were taken to another nursing home nearby.

President Enrique Pena Nieto tweeted “deepest condolences to the families of the senior citizens who lost their lives in the tragic fire.”
