National Assembly condemns execution of JI leaders in Bangladesh

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Wednesday passed a unanimous resolution strongly condemning the execution of Jamaat-e-Islami leaders in Bangladesh.

The resolution moved by Sher Akbar Khan said that the execution of JI leaders is contrary to the tripartite agreement signed by Pakistan, India and Bangladesh in 1974.

It demanded the government to seriously raise at all the international forums the sentencing of political opponents in Bangladesh.

Responding to a calling attention notice moved by Shakila Luqman and others, Parliamentary Secretary for Housing and Works Syed Sajid Mehdi informed the House that work on Bhara Kahu Housing Scheme will be started within one month.

He said that the land for the first phase of the project was purchased in 2009 but it got delayed due to the suo moto notice taken by the Supreme Court and objections raised by some other organizations.

He said offer letters for 2500 plots will soon be issued. He said the process has also been started to purchase land for the second phase of the Bhara Kahu scheme. —INP
