Mirwaiz arrested as he tried to lead Referendum March

SRINAGAR: Indian police have arrested the Chairman of Hurriyet forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, when he tried to lead the Referendum March towards Lal Chowk in Srinagar, today (Saturday).

The Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Gilani, and Hurriyet leaders, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik in Indian held Kashmir, have called for Referendum March to Lal Chowk in Srinagar tomorrow (Saturday) and on Sunday.

The authorities continue to impose stringent curfew and other restrictions in the territory to prevent the Referendum March while sealing all the roads leading to the Lal Chowk.

On the other hand, people took to the streets at Lethpora in Pulwama, today, after body of a youth, Suhail Ahmad Wani, who succumbed to his injures at a hospital in Srinagar this morning reached the area.

Suhail Wani was injured in the firing of Indian police on peaceful protesters in Lethpora on August 2.
