JI member Mirza Tanveer killed in Lahore

LAHORE: A senior member of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Mirza Tanveer, on Saturday gunned down by unidentified assailants and fled from the location.

The incident took place at Yakki Gate within premises of constituency of Punjab Chief Minister’s son Hamza Shehbaz Sharif. Assailants on two motorcycles opened fire on the JI senior members returning from session court after following the murder case of two JI activists.

It should be mentioned here that Mirza Tanveer had contested for chairman post in the same constituency during previous local bodies’ election. He had faced fierce attack four days before LG election as ruling Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) activists resorted to firing on JI office that claimed lives of two JI activists while six others were seriously wounded.

Moreover, an independent candidate, Hashim Khan, had also killed within premises of same constituency.

Top leadership of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) strongly condemned the brutal attack on Mirza Tanveer. JI Ameer Sirajul Haq, Secretary General Liaqat Baloch, Secretary Information Ameerul Azeem, JI Lahore chapter Ameer Zikrullah Mujahid strongly condemned the attack and expressed deep sorrow over the loss with family of the deceased activist.

The leadership said it is becoming a tradition to kill political opponents by ruling political party. They said current rulers are responsible for Mirza Tanveer’s murder.
