Unofficial results: PML-N leads Islamabad LG polls

ISLAMABAD: With the unofficial results start pouring in, a tough electoral battle was seen between rivals Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). However, ruling political party managed lead in the LG polls with 21 seats followed by PTI which grabbed 18 seats while independent candidates won 11 seats.

Earlier, both political parties tied with 15-15 seats followed by independent candidates after emergence of overall results of 34 out of total 50 seats in the federal capital.

According to unofficial results, vote counting began after conclusion moments of Islamabad local government (LG) in Islamabad while first unofficial and unconfirmed results showed victory of nine candidates belonging to minorities among 34 winners till Tuesday’s mid-night while vote count was still continued.

The candidates who won the electoral battle unopposed on Monday are from Union Councils (UCs) 6, 11, 17, 19, 23, 34, 36, 45 and 48.

However, voting concluded peacefully in the federal capital on Monday amid low voter turnout and high security as residents of the federal capital went to the polls to elect local representatives for the first time under the Islamabad Local Government Act, 2015.
