Former president Gen (R) Pervez Musharraf dies after protracted illness in Dubai

DUBAI: Former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf Sunday passed away in a Dubai hospital at the age of 79, a local TV reported citing diplomatic sources.

The former military ruler had been undergoing treatment for an ailment at an American Hospital Dubai.

Pervez Musharraf was born on August 11, 1943, in Delhi. He completed his early education at Karachi’s St Patrick’s High School.

The former president and COAS received higher education at Lahore’s Forman Christian College.

Musharraf was elevated to the rank of general in 1998 and he took over as the chief of army staff (COAS).
