Faizabad inquiry commission gives clean chit to Faiz Hameed

The Faizabad Inquiry Commission has given a clean chit to former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lt Gen (Retd) Faiz Hameed.

The Faizabad sit-in inquiry commission report consisting of 149 pages has been sent to the federal government.

On the orders of the Supreme Court, a three-member inquiry commission was set up under the chairmanship of former IG Syed Akhtar Ali Shah while former IG Tahir Alam and senior officer of Pakistan Administrative Service Khushal Khan were members of the body.

Sources said that the inquiry commission prepared recommendations after examining different aspects related to Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan’s Faizabad sit-in.

The report also shed light on Islamabad Police, Ministry of Interior, Punjab government, ISI and IB. It also contains details of cases related to former law minister Zahid Hamid.

The report further said that Faiz Hameed as Major General DG (C) ISI was to sign the agreement and the then DG ISI and the Army Chief had given him permission to sign the agreement.

According to Faizabad Inquiry Commission, then prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and interior minister Ahsan Iqbal also agreed on Faiz Hameed’s signature.

The commission stressed on ensuring implementation of all the points of the National Action Plan and said that the weaknesses in the command and control system of the police should also be covered.

The report further stated that the Punjab government allowed the TLP march to proceed to Islamabad instead of halting it in Lahore, resulting in seven deaths and 227 injuries due to lack of police communication in the twin cities.

It added that the federal government had got the services of ISI to gain access to the leadership of the protesters.
