Daily virus testing capacity to be increased to 20,000 by May: Dr Firdous

Islamabad: The government intends to increase the daily coronavirus testing capacity to 20,000 by next month. 

This was stated by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Boradcasting Firdous Ashiq Awan here on Sunday.

As a result of enhanced testing now the daily number of infections are increasing, Dr Firdous added.

Now we are conducting 7,000 to 8,000 tests daily across the country. However, we started this journey from 472 tests a day, she further said.

After increasing daily tests you might see more cases on a daily basis.

The National Disaster Management Authority is planning to increase the number of testing labs to 60 from existing 40 through the public-private partnership in the country, the PM’s assistant said.

On Saturday, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information Firdous Ashiq Awan had said that the media workers would be included in the PM’s relief package announced for industrial workers.

She stated this while addressing a press conference here.
