ANKARA: President Erdogan’s Justice and Development Party (AK Party) has gained majority votes in the recently held local elections.

The People’s Alliance comprising AK Party and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) gained 52 per cent of the total votes. On the other hand, Nation Alliance that was formed between the main opposition CHP and the Good Party (IP), received about 38 per cent of the overall vote.

Turkey’s Local Election 2014

Below are the seat positions of various political parties in the elections held in 2019 and 2014:

1- Justice and Development Party (AK Party) in Election 2019

AK Party had once again emerged as the country’s biggest party in the elections. The Erdogan-led party had gained 44.3 per cent votes winning 15 metropolitan, 24 provincial and 535 district seats.

In the previous local elections held five years ago, AK Party had gained 45.5 per cent votes. It won 18 metropolitan, 30 provincial and 559 district seats.

 

2- Republican People’s Party (CHP) in Election 2019

The main opposition party CHP had gained 30.1 per cent votes. The party won 11 metropolitan, 10 provincial and 191 district seat.

In 2014, CHP had won the local elections in six metropolitan municipalities and eight other provinces.

 

3- IP (Good Party) in Election 2019

The Good Party led by Chairman Meral Aksener had gained 7.4 per cent votes.

IP did not participate in the 2014 local elections as it was established in Oct 10, 2017.

 

4- Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) in Election 2019

MHP led by Chairman Devlet Bahceli had gained 7.3 per cent votes in the elections. It won 1 metropolitan, 10 provincial and 145 district seats.

In 2014 elections, MHP had won three metropolitan, five provincial and 106 district seats.

 

5- People’s Democratic Party (HDP) in Election 2019

HDP led by Sezai Temelli and Pervin Buldan had gained 4.2 per cent votes in the polls. It won three metropolitan, five provincial and 50 district seats.

In 2014 elections, HDP could only managed to gain 1.8 per cent votes. It could not win any seat.

 

6- Felicity Party (SAADET) in Election 2019

SAADET Party led by Chairman Temel Karamollaoglu had gained 2.7 per cent votes in the elections. It won only nine district seats.
