PDM's steering committee recommends long march and resignation from assemblies

The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) has formulated a strategy to delay the provincial assembly elections.

In consultation with Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, former President Asif Zardari and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, it has been decided that the coalition government will file petitions in the courts to delay the election.

According to Thawar, first of all, the Sindh government will file a writ petition in the court and in the second stage, the Balochistan government will also file a writ petition.

Sources said that in both the petitions, the position will be adopted that the election should be conducted after the new census and new constituencies are mandatory after the census.

A minimum of 90 days is constitutionally required for the delimitation process. It should be noted that the Assemblies of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are dissolved and caretaker governments are functioning.
