NOTTINGHAM: Australia cricket team captain Michael Clarke has announced his retirement from international cricket and will be playing his last Test match at The Oval.

Clarke announced his decision after Australia lost the fourth Test at Trent Bridge to England by an innings and 78 runs, also conceding the Ashes series 3-1 with a Test to go.

The 34-year-old, who has overseen a disastrous tour of England amid a personal slump in form with the bat, had stated before the fourth Test at Trent Bridge his intention to play on.

But with his team going down 3-1 in the series to Alastair Cook’s men at Trent Bridge with one game to go, Cricket Australia confirmed that Clarke will end his Test career at the conclusion of the match.

Clarke has struggled with the bat in England, averaging just over 16 in the disastrous campaign.

With one Test to go, Clarke averages a shade under 50 with 28 hundreds to his name.
