Pilot of crashed plane did not follow instructions of air traffic controller: CAA

KARACHI: The pilot of of the ill-fated PIA plane did not follow the landing instructions of air traffic controller (ATC), a Civil Aviation Authority report says.

According to a letter written to the general manager of PIA’s safety department by CAA’s Additional Director Iftikhar Ahmed, the pilot of the crashed plane disregard the instructions of the air traffic controller regarding the landing.

It said that the air traffic controller kept instructing the captain on landing but latter did not follow them.

The speed and altitude of the PIA plane was higher than the required limit for the landing, the content of the letter says.

Last month, a PIA’s flight number 8305 crashed minutes before landing in Karachi’s Model Colony area on Friday.

The plane coming from Lahore was carrying about 97 passengers and crew members.

Senior journalist and director programming of Channel 24 Ansar Naqvi was also onboard the PIA plane.

PIA sources said that Captain Sajjad Gul was flying the ill-fated plane, which crashed at 2:37pm local time.

They said that the landing gear of the plane had developed technical fault and crashed in Model Colony’s Jinnah Garden after hitting several houses.  Several houses had caught fire.
