West Indies Women beat Australia Women to become WT20 champion

West Indies Women have beaten Australia Women to claim their first ever World T20 title here at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Sunday.

West Indies chased a mammoth total of 148 runs in 19.3 overs on loss of two wickets thanks to outstanding know from Hayley Matthews and Stafanie Taylor.

Both made 120 stand for the first wicket chasing a record total. Matthews made 66 while Taylor contributed with 59 runs.

Deandra Dottin (18) and Britney Cooper (3) finished the match by hitting the winning runs for West Indies.

Rene Farrell and Kristen Beams picked up one wicket each for Australian side.

Earlier, Australia Women won the toss and elected to bat first which turned out to be a great decision for the side despite losing an early wicket.

Meg Lanning and Elyse Villani both scored 52 runs each for the side to set the platform for the side. Ellyse Perry smashed quick 28 to guide the total to 148 runs on loss of five wickets.

Deandra Dottin picked up two wickets while Hayley Matthews and Anisa Mohammed bagged a wicket each for the side.
