Pakistan’s legendary or finest pacer Wasim Akram is celebrating his 50th birthday today.

There was not a single batsman who did not dread facing Akram, right from the time the teenage sensation burst on to the scene on Nov 23rd 1984 and up until he retired on March 4th 2003.

In a career that spanned nearly two decades, Akram picked up 916 international wickets, establishing himself as perhaps the greatest fast-bowler to play the game.

With his swift action, deadly yorkers and ability to reverse swing the ball like no other, Akram remained the highest wicket-taker in ODIs with 502 scalps for nearly six years before Muttiah Muralitharan surpassed him in 2009.

Akram was also one of the rare talents to have never played first-class cricket before making his debut for Pakistan.

He was also the member of Pakistan’s 1992 World Cup winning squad.
