Vice-President ADB calls on PM Nawaz Sharif

ISLAMABAD: Vice President of Asian Development Bank (ADB) Wencai Zhang on Wednesday called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

The meeting discussed  matters of bilateral nature on the occasion the premier also thanked the ADB bank over granting a loan of six billion dollar for power sector projects.

The PM said that Pakistan will retain cooperation with the ADB in future.

The Asian Development Bank funding of six billion dollars would be helpful for overcoming energy crisis. The projects include ongoing construction of 660MW of Jamshoro Coal Project and building new road projects of Hassanabdal-Havellian and Gojra-Khanewal Motorways.

In next five years, to overcome energy crises small and medium dams of 100 – 300 MW would be constructed with an aggregate capacity of 2000 MW.

It is pertinent to mention here that Asian Development Bank (ADB) has agreed to finance six billion dollars for the next five years in Pakistan, aligning its country partnership strategy with Vision 2025.

An understanding to this effect came during a meeting on Country Partnership Strategy and Country Business Operation Plan for Pakistan held in Islamabad on Tuesday yesterday.

Secretary, Economic Affairs Division Muhammad Saleem Sethi co-chaired the meeting with Vice President of the Bank Wencai Zhang.
