WASHINGTON: United States crushed more than a ton of illegal ivory at New York Times Square. The ivory was recovered from New York and Philadelphia.

The ivory was crushed in an effort to halt elephants’ killing and ivory trafficking in US.

The ivory  was sent up a conveyor belt into a rock crusher. The Wildlife Conservation Society said that the global ivory trade leads to the slaughter of up to 35,000 elephants a year in Africa.

Kristin Davis asked people not to buy an ivory. A wildlife activist said, “Animals are being slaughtered every 15 minutes and it’s a very gruesome death. We are going to lose elephants in 10 years if we don’t do something”.
