Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has participated in the Khalsa Day celebrations in Toronto.

Vaisakhi celebrations took a controversial turn in Canada after pro-Khalistan slogans raised even in the presence of Prime Minister Trudeau and opposition leader Pierre Poilievre. On the occasion, the resurgence of the pro-Khalistan movement, and the promises made by Canadian leaders to the Sikh community has sparked a debate and concern.

Notably, Poilievre pledged direct flights from Amritsar to Canada.

Canadian Sikhs also raised slogans in favour of Khalistan and against the Indian leadership for the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

A large number of Sikh community demanded independence from India on the occasion of Khasa Day in different cities of Canada.

It should be remembered that after the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar relations between Canada and India have been under severe tension.

On the other hand, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has called India responsible for the murder of a Canadian citizen on the floor of the Parliament.
