LAHORE: At least eight people including three police personnel embraced martyrdom and 26 others injured in a suicide blast outside the Data Darbar here on Wednesday.
The blast targeted a van carrying the Elite Force of Punjab Police, rescue sources said.
According to sources all the dead and the injured have been shifted to Mayo Hospital for further medical assistance.
Four of the injured are in critical condition, the sources added.
However, the police have started an investigation to unearth the details of the blast.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar called an emergency meeting after the suicide blast.
He strongly condemned the blast which targeted the police vehicle. The chief minister postponed his visit to Bhakkar and summoned an emergency meeting of the high-ranking police officials and Safe City authorities.
He said that terrorism cannot dampen the nation’s spirit.
