ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Army Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Major General Babar Iftikhar has said that there is no word of conspiracy in the declaration of National Security Committee.

In a press conference, the DG ISPR said that a day earlier, the formation commanders had expressed full confidence in the steps taken for the security of the country, especially in view of internal security and supremacy of constitution and law, and directed it in the right direction. All agreed that strengthening democracy and institutions, rule of law and keeping all institutions within the ambit of the Constitution is in the national interest. The war on terror will continue till the last terrorist is eliminated.

The DG ISPR said that the Army Chief and DG ISI had no meeting with the then prime minister Imran Khan at the Prime Minister’s House on the night of April 9. Everything in this regard is a lie.

In response to a question, Major General Babar Iftikhar said that he had no knowledge about the meeting of two senior officials in the President’s Chamber in the Parliament House.

He further said that Imran Khan was not given any option by the establishment. During the deadlock, the Prime Minister’s Office contacted the Chief of Army Staff to talk of rescue. The leadership of our political parties was not ready to talk to each other. But the Army Chief and the DG ISI went there, sat down with various comrades and discussed three things that could happen, including the resignation of the Prime Minister, withdrawal of the no-confidence motion and the option of dissolving the assemblies by the Prime Minister.

The DG ISPR said that on the third option, the Prime Minister said that it is acceptable, talk to the opposition on our behalf. There was a lively discussion but the opposition said that we will not take such a step.
