The symbolic meeting, held at a local hotel, was attended by members of the joint opposition, Jahangir Tareen and Abdul Aleem Khan groups.

In the symbolic meeting, a resolution was tabled to elect Hamza Shahbaz as the chief minister and the members stood up and approved the resolution.

199 members voted in favour of the resolution. On this occasion, the hall resounded with the slogans of Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shahbaz.

Earlier, Maryam Nawaz had also reached a local hotel to express solidarity with Hamza. She traveled in a bus with the members of the assembly and went to the hotel decided for the meeting.

According to the spokesperson of the Punjab Assembly, when no-confidence motion has been filed against the Deputy Speaker, he cannot preside over any meeting. Constitutionally, the deputy speaker is not authorized to preside over any meeting.

He said that if the deputy speaker did so, he would be violating the Constitution.

It may be recalled that yesterday, Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly Dost Muhammad Mazari first issued a declaration to convene the meeting on April 16 and then changed the date of late night meeting to April 6.

PML-Q had refused to accept the decision of Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly to convene a meeting on April 6.

Today, the government filed a no-confidence motion against its own deputy speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari and at the same time the doors of the Punjab Assembly were closed.
