Steps being taken for lasting peace in FATA, provision of education facilities: Governor KP

PESHAWAR: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Engr. Iqbal Zafar Jhagra has said that steps are being taken for the maintenance of the lasting peace, provision of modern education facilities to the tribal people and to improve the standards of education in this marginalized region.

He said that development of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and to ensure the dignified return and rehabilitation of tribal people is among the top priorities and added repatriation of Temporarily Displace Persons (TDPs) is in process of completion and it will be completed till end of December.” He further said that accordingly to the vision of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, reforms in FATA will be according to the wishes of people of FATA and consequently this will bring prosperity in this region.

Iqbal Zafar Jhagra expressed these views while talking to Country Director UNESCO, Ms. Vibeke Jensen who called on him at Governor House Peshawar, on Thursday. During the meeting a light was shed on the matters of repatriation of TDPs to their native homelands.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor KP appreciated UNESCO for their effective role in conducting welfare works in FATA. He assured that every kind of support and facilities will be provided to UNESCO for creating awareness among people of FATA specifically emphasizing on education.

The Governor KP said that TDPs dignified return is in the process of continuity and among 4 lakh and 50,000 affectees, only 1 lakh and 9 thousand have left which will be repatriated successfully till end of this year. “Work has been done on starting a revolutionary program for the welfare of the people of FATA”, he added.

Engr. Iqbal Zafar Jhagra said that patriotic tribesmen had rendered great sacrifices for the peace of entire region and now the time has come to take potential measures to resolve their problems and for their welfare. Moreover, he added, “each and every reform will be according to wishes of the people of FATA”.
