Smooth passage of budget is opposition’s defeat: Firdous Awan

ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Saturday termed the passing of the budget in the National Assembly as a defeat for the opposition.

Taking to Twitter Awan said, “The government will take steps that are in the interest of country and nation. The opposition will suffer defeat on every front.”

She added, the government of the people will keep taking bold decisions for a brighter future. “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan the nation’s struggle will bring about a change,” Awan added.

The information adviser added, “The budget is a step towards a prosperous, well-developed and advanced Pakistan. The coming months will take Pakistan towards progress and prosperity.”

On Friday, the National Assembly passed the federal budget approving the Finance Bill 2019-20 to give effect to the financial proposals of the government.

The total outlay of the budget was Rs7.022 trillion, focusing on fiscal consolidation, revenue mobilization, austerity measures and protection to the vulnerable segments of society.

One hundred and seventy six (176) members of treasury benches favoured the motion while 146 members of opposition opposed it.

After the passage of the motion with a majority vote, Minister for Revenue Hammad Azhar introduced the finance bill which was passed by the house with a majority of votes.

Members of National Assembly moved amendments in the finance bill. The amendments were related to changes in tax rates and finance bill, tax exemptions and the abolition of interest on bonds.
