A 10th class student, Muhammad Yasir Sheikh, was killed after Indian police directly fired upon demonstrators in Batamaloo area of Srinagar.

Curfew remained in force on Tuesday for the 39th consecutive day in entire Srinagar district and Anantnag town while restrictions were in place in the rest of the Valley.

Police said curfew and restrictions were imposed to thwart the plans of separatists to organise sit-in protest against the civilian killings at main market places of the Valley.

Schools, colleges and private offices remained closed while public transport remained off the roads due to the strike called by the separatists. The attendance in government offices was thin. Internet and mobile services across the Valley remained suspended.

The intifada was triggered by the extra-judicial killing of the top commander of Hizbul Mujahideen, Burhan Wani, on July 8, this year.

Besides killing of 79 people, over 8,000 people have been injured so far due to the firing of pellets, bullets and teargas shells by Indian troops and police personnel on peaceful protesters across the Kashmir Valley.
