Sirajul Haq demands govt to ensure transparent polls in AJK

LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Sirajul Haq on Wednesday demanded of the government and concern authorities to ensure free and fair elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

A JI Azad Jammu and Kashmir delegation, headed by Abdur Rasheed Turabi called on Sirajul Haq and discussed the current political situation of the Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.

Sirajul Haq asked the authorities not to interfere in the forth coming elections and urged them to ensure the polls transparent. Turabi told Sirajul Haq that Azad Kashmir government and Kashmir Council was involved in pre-poll rigging and allegedly buying votes.

He demanded of the government to introduce a model system in the Azad Kshmir and GB which could support the Kashmir movement and resolve the issues of the masses. Turabi demanded political and basic constitutional rights for the people of Azad Kashmir. He said that royalty of Mangla, Diamer and other dams should be given to Kashmiri people.

Sirajul Haq said on the occasion that JI would not allow anyone to steal people mandate and added that Azad Kashmir is the base camp of independence movement, so the government should avoid unnecessary interference here. While Abdur Rasheed Turabi lashed out at the Azad Kashmir government for its involvement in corruption and pre-poll rigging. He urged the masses to elect a sincere, competent and real leadership in the forthcoming elections.

Turabi vowed to celebrate Kashmir Solidarity Day with great enthusiasm this year.
