Sheesha smoking banned at public places in Punjab

ISLAMABAD: The Punjab government has prohibited use of Sheesha (Hukka) in cafes, clubs and public places like hotels, restaurants and parks with immediate effect till September 30 across the province.

According to a notification of the Provincial Home Department, it has been reported that most of the managements of cafes are involved in providing the facilities of smoking of Sheesha and Hukka to teenager boys and girls which are source of hazards erupting serious diseases particularly destroying the future of young generation.

A senior official of the Home Department said nuisance existed among the masses, especially among the parents of teenaged students. There was strong apprehension that it may disturb public peace and tranquility, he added.

He said action had been taken under Section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code 1898 as an immediate prevention and speedy remedy in the matter.
