Samuels, Brathwaite snatch WT20 title from England

Marlon Samuels and Carlos Brathwaite have snatched World T20 title from England on Sunday at Eden Garden Kolkata.

England were in control of the game defending 156 but Samuels stood firm to successfully help his team cross the winning line.

Samuels once again given his best at the biggest stage of shortest format of the game as he again hit record 85, highest individual score at the final of World T20.

On the other hand Carlos Brathwaite also had another amazing night with both bat at bowl. First he picked up three wickets and later he smashed 34 of just 10 deliveries. He smoked four consecutive sixes of Ben Stocks to help his team lift the trophy for the second time.

England were in command of the game since they grab wickets of Chris Gayle, Johnson Charles and Lendl Simmons with just 11 runs on the score board.

But at that stage Samuels and Dwayne Bravo made the vital contribution for the fourth wicket. They added over 50 runs before Bravo was dismissed on 25 by Adil Rasheed.

Samuels who was awarded man of the match, continued to score the runs from one end while wickets tumble from the other. He kept his team alive in the game before Brathwaite finished the game for the side. The finished the game with two bowls remaining in the match on loss of six wickets.

David Welly grabbed three wickets while Joe Root picked up two wickets for the losing side.

Talking to presentation ceremony, skipper Darren Sammy said he was disappointed with the behavior of West Indies cricket board.

On the other hand, Samuels dedicated his man of the match award to Australian legend Shane Warne.

Earlier, West Indies after winning the toss invited England to bat. From the beginning of the inning the Windies were on top of their game as they remove inform Jason Roy and Alex Hales with just eight runs on the score board.

At the score of 23, Badree removed England skipper Eion Morgan, who made 5 runs but Joe Root stood at the other hand and produced one of his best knocks at the crunch stage. He made 54 before being caught at short fine leg by Sulieman Benn.
