MULTAN: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that foreign ministers of 46 brother Muslim countries had confirmed their participation so far in the coming Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) conference.

Qureshi while addressing the media here hoped that said some more countries are also likely to attend the OIC conference.

He requested the opposition leaders to cooperate in organizing the OIC meeting and do not cause any disturbance. Qureshi said that the OIC meeting is being held in Pakistan after a long time.

The foreign minister cleared that the state of Pakistan and not the government is holding the OIC meeting.

He said that, during the OIC meeting, the visiting foreign minsters would discuss Kashmir, Afghanistan, Palestine and Islamophobia issue

He said that conference would be held on March 22 and 23 in Islamabad.

The foreign minister was of the view that Pakistan had issued a very balanced statement on the Russia and Ukraine conflict.

Earlier, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi had said that Jahangir Tareen and Aleem Khan group is not a group and Aleem Khan is our friend.

In his statement on Saturday, Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that whoever is elected on the symbol of bat is bound to vote for Imran Khan.

He said that if one does not vote for Imran Khan then he should resign morally.

The foreign minister said that Jahangir Tareen and Aleem Khan group is not a group, Aleem Khan is our friend and not a group.

He further said that the power to call a meeting rests with the Speaker and he would decide.

Earlier this week, Foreign Minister and Senior Vice-Chairman of Paki­stan Tehreek-i-Insaf Shah Mahmood Qureshi had said that the PTI government doesn’t believe in restrictions on the media. However, he said that the government wants the media to play its role with responsibility.

Addressing a presser, the foreign minister had said the changes to the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (Peca) were not intended to silent the media. He was of the view that any curbs were not workable in the present day.

Qureshi said that the real objective was that the media should continue performing with full freedom with responsibility.

The foreign minister while offering an olive branch to media houses, said that the political parties and media were inseparable. The PTI government is ready to sit with the media representatives to discuss the issue and find a solution.
