Punjab fisheries earns Rs 240m by leasing waters, fines

LAHORE: Punjab Fisheries Director General Dr Muhammad Ayub has said that Rs240 million has been recovered by leasing of waters, issuance of licences for fishing and fine for fishing without licence during 2015-16.

Presiding over a review meeting at his office here Sunday, he said 36,425 licences were issued for fishing during 2014-15 resulting in an income of Rs 9,021,000 as fee while a sum of Rs 1,730,000 was recovered as fine for fishing without licences.

He said 51,564,000 fish seed produced in nurseries and hatcheries of the fisheries department has been released in government waters and 16,778,000 fish seed in private waters.

The DG said 297 government waters in the province were given on lease which resulted in an income of Rs 230 million.

Director Fisheries Dr Imtiaz, Director Fisheries Hatcheries Dr. Sikandar and Deputy Director Planning & Development Anser Mehmood Chatha besides other officers were also present.
