LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Friday filed a petition in the election tribunal seeking disqualification of Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif as Prime Minister of the country.

PTI’s Dr. Yasmeen Rashid, in the petition, stated that PM Sharif is not eligible to stay in office under the Article 62 and 63 of the constitution.

The petitioner said that the prime minister had not declared his assets during the general elections 2013. Yasmeen Rashid had contested the 2013 general elections against Nawaz Sharif from Lahore National Assembly constituency NA-120.

She said that the constitution states that a person can qualify for the membership of the Parliament only if he/she is of good character and is not commonly known as one who violates Islamic Injunctions whereas Article 62.1.e states that the parliamentarian should be sagacious, righteous and non-profligate, honest and ameen, there being no declaration to the contrary by a court of law.

Talking to media, Party leader Naeemul Haq has said that ToRs preparation process does not seem to get completed and there is no other way left except approaching the court.

Naeem further said that the decision to file the reference is made due to dejection over failure to prepare the ToRs. We have provided ample proofs to the EC, he said. Members of the EC are not yet appointed and we expect that Parliamentary Committee will complete the process of their appointment by swift consultations.
