EXCLUSIVE: Poor can’t buy second-hand garments from ‘Lunda Bazaar’ after 10pc duty

KARACHI: People from low-income groups now cannot even buy used clothing, shoes and other items imported from Europe and the US after sharp increase in their prices courtesy recent imposition of 10 per cent regulatory duty on these items.

The prices of these items had already been increased 50 percent due to weakening of rupee against dollar.

Now due to imposition of 10 per cent regulatory duty announced in the recent budget the prices of used clothing, shoes and other items have got out of the reach of poor.

The Karachi’s Light House market is presenting a deserted after the recent regulatory tax on second-hand garments and other items.

The traders at the market had rejected the duty and demanded immediate withdrawal of the tax.
