PM lays foundation of signal-free Islamabad Expressway

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif has laid the foundation on the expansion and signal-free Islamabad Expressway on Tuesday.

PM Nawaz addressing to a ceremony said that the government of Pakistan has decided that they are not increasing  petroleum prices in the holy month of Ramadan.

He said that government will face Rs 2.5 billion loses by not increasing the prices.

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) will launch work on the expansion and signal-free Islamabad Expressway, he said

The project will cost Rs 21 billion involves the expansion of Expressway to 10 lanes from the Zero Point to Rawat providing the commuters a signal free ride across the 24-kilometer, CDA sources said.

The project would be executed in three phases. In the first phase, portion of the Expressway between Zero Point and Faizabad interchanges would be widened to 10 lanes.

The stretch between Faizabad and the Airport Chowk would be expanded in the second phase and the remaining portion up to Rawat would be catered for in the third phase.

The project involves construction of two overhead passages and seven underpasses for an access to housing societies located along the road.

Of five lanes on either sides as designed in the project, three would be flexible and the rest two rigid for movement of heavy vehicles.

PM also announced that he will visit Karachi tomorrow and also told that Metro Bus Karachi project is in final phase will soon start construction on it.

He said government will try to complete the project in 1.5-year and initially Rs 80 billion have been allocated for the first year.
