Pakistan Day is being celebrated today with renewed commitment to defeat the forces of extremism and terrorism and work hard for the progress, prosperity and stability of the country.

It was on this day in 1940 that a mammoth gathering of Muslims at Minto Park in Lahore adopted historic resolution that paved the way for a separate homeland for Muslims of South Asia.

The day was dawn with 31-gun salute at the federal and 21-gun salute at the provincial capitals. It will be a public holiday and national flag would be hoisted at all major government and private buildings.

Special prayers were offered after Fajr prayers for the security, progress and solidarity of the country.

Main feature of the day would be a spectacular Joint Services Pakistan Day Parade in Islamabad. President Mamnoon Hussain will review the parade which will also be witnessed by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the three services chiefs besides an array of guest’s from different walks of life.

An investiture ceremony will be held at Aiwan-e-Sadar in the afternoon where President Mamnoon Hussain will confer awards and medals to  personalities for their outstanding performance and contribution in different fields.

Pakistan Day will also be celebrated at the United Nations for the first time with a concert planned in the prestigious General Assembly hall. Organised by the Pakistan Mission to the UN, the concert will feature Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. Titled Sufi Night: Music of Peace, it is aimed at spreading the message of peace and harmony at the world stage.

Various political, social, religious, cultural and educational organisations have also arranged functions to highlight different aspects of the struggle for Pakistan and lives of our founding fathers.

Frontier Corps Balochistan has organized a flag hoisting ceremony at Quaid-i-Azam Residency at Ziarat tomorrow as part of Pakistan Day celebrations in the province.
