The Pakistan Customs Tuesday vowed not to allow duty-free trade of Indian goods under the grab of intra-Kashmir trade through Line of Control (LoC), as it would be detrimental for the country’s economy.

Focal Person, Additional Collector Customs Anti-Smuggling, Muhammad Ashfaq while talking to APP said that intra-Kashmir trade through LoC was limited to duty-free barter system for exchange goods of occupied Kashmir and Azad Kashmir.

However, he lamented that some elements were misusing this trade route and were exporting Indian products to avoid customs duty, which otherwise they had to pay while trading these commodities through Wagah Border.

He was of the view that some elements were involved in this practice and were causing losses to Pakistan economy and serving interests of India.

He was of the view that when the Customs department was carrying out its operation against this illegal trade in accordance with the law of the land, some elements were holding protest demonstration to serve their own interests.

He said that at a time when India had been committing gross human rights violations against struggling Kashmiris in occupied Kashmir, promoting India interests thorough this smuggling tantamount to treason.

He said that the customs department would continue its actions to check such malpractices.
