THARPARKAR: A mysterious disease in the Thar desert has killed more than 100 peacocks and left dozens sick.

The wildlife department could not diagnose the disease despite the passage of several days.

According to the Wildlife Department, peacocks’s swollen neck and lack of proper nutrition is a major cause of death.

Sources said that in a week, more than 100 peacocks have died in more than 10 villages of Mithi, Islamkot and Diplo Tehsils of Tharparkar and more than two dozen peacocks are suffering from the disease.

According to the Poultry Department, peacocks have a ranikhet disease and peacocks are wild birds that cannot be caught for vaccination. If they are caught, they will die. They are given multivitamins and antibiotics in advance.
