KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Secretary. Abdul Wahab has expressed profound grief over the demise of half a dozen people in the Liaquatabad building collapse and demanded of the government to held the relevant authorities responsible for the incident.

In a statement on Tuesday, the JI leader said that just declaring the building illegal or dilapidated was not enough for the relevant governmental authorities as they let the incident happened while turning a blind eye to the seriously alarming situation.

Why didn’t the Sindh Building Control Authority get the residents evacuated if the building was already in a dilapidated condition, he raised the point, adding that who did allow the construction of the building if it was illegal.

Citing the media reports, he said that the foundation of the building was wracked due to sewerage water. He maintained that who would be held responsible if this was the case.

He demanded of the government to launch a detailed probe into the incident and all those found responsible should be brought to full justice.

The JI leader also prayed for the departure souls, wounded and their heirs.
