Nisar directs FIA to address Merchant concerns

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Monday directed Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to address the concerns of Sarfaraz Merchant.

The FIA committee is probing several charges against Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) that included party’s connections with RAW and money laundering.

The interior minister had constituted the committee after Sarfaraz Merchant leveled serious allegations against the MQM and also showed some documents that allegedly vindicated his claims.

The interior minister said that Sarfaraz is a witness and that his self-respect should be ensured. Earlier, talking to media, Sarfaraz Merchant claimed that he has evidences of MQM’s connection with RAW, demanding the government to include officials of intelligences agencies in the committee probing the charges.

He further stated that he has evidences against MQM chief and other party leaders including Muhammad Anwar and Tariq Mir of receiving funds.

Sarfaraz said he would provide documents to the officials on appropriate forum.
