KARACHI: The appellate tribunal on a petition seeking disqualification of PML-N candidate Miftah Ismail on NA-249 for by-polls has issued notices to the election commission, the former finance minister and others.

The tribunal has also sought reply from all the parties by tomorrow (Friday).

Earlier, Tehreek-e-Insaf Lawyers Forum Chairman Husnain Chohan Advocate filed a petition seeking disqualification of Miftah Ismail, who is a PML-N candidate in NA-249 by-election.

The petitioner, in the plea, claimed that Miftah Ismail does not fulfill requirements for qualification under the articles 62 and 63. He added that the returning officer had illegally accepted his nomination papers. He continued that the PML-N candidate had concealed his assets as he did not mention his luxury vehicles in the nomination papers. The former finance minister had claimed that he did not own any vehicle in his asset details. Therefore, Miftah Ismail should be disqualified, the petitioner said.

The tribunal asked to the petitioner if he and the PML-N leader reside in the same locality? To which, Husnain Chohan Advocate replied, “Yes, we reside in the same locality. I am also contesting on NA-249.”

Meanwhile, PML-N leader and former finance minister Miftah Ismail has come up with a unique idea to woo voters in the coming by-polls for Karachi’s NA-249.

Miftah Ismail, during his election campaign, will hand out candy carrying his picture on the packaging.

It may be mentioned here that PML-N leader Miftah Ismail runs a candy factory named Ismail Industries, which owns Candyland.

The unique idea of election campaign by Mifath Ismail has gained a positive response on the social media.

Miftah Ismail is seen as a soft image of PML-N as he is popular among people in Karachi. Experts claimed that the PML-N candidate is favorite to win the NA-249 by-polls.
