The management of a government-run women’s college in Udupi district had forced six Muslim students to sit outside their classroom allegedly for defying the rules by wearing hijab. They said that hijab was not part of college uniform.

On the other hand, the Muslim students said that hijab was part of their faith and religion. They added that wearing hijab was their right that is guaranteed under the Indian law.

However, the management of the college had refused to accept the argument of the Muslim girls. The girls have been marked as absent since Dec 31 despite visiting the college daily.
