Murder convict hanged in Sahiwal

A death row prisoner has been sent to gallows in the Central Jail Sahiwal on early Wednesday morning. The dead body of the convict was handed over to his heirs after the execution.

The murder convict, Ghulam Murtaza was executed for killing three persons including Sabiha Bibi and her two sons Amir and Aatir during a robbery attempt in 1992.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif lifted a six-year moratorium on death penalty on December 17, 2014 for those convicted for terrorism a day after the deadly attack on Army Public School in Peshawar that left 150 persons including mostly children dead. There are more than 8,000 prisoners on death row in the country.
